Core
Workshops

to level up your bilingual practices

Welcome to the Core Workshops series!

This series is meant for schools and districts that have some experience with bilingual education programming and teacher training, and for any number of reasons are seeking to level up their bilingual practices and routines.

This series pairs nicely with equity-minded building leaders who have invested in Anti-Bias, Anti-Racist initiatives and would like to extend teacher consciousness-raising into language-centered work.

About the workshops

Biliteracy FTW→

explores the four components of a strong biliteracy framework as well as key instructional strategies that cut to the core of paired literacy instruction. Teachers engage in a biliteracy self-assessment to ignite their curiosity around areas of growth.

Language Ideology Reframe →

is a nice accompaniment to any ABAR work being done in your district. Teachers move through a series of reflections on their personal journeys learning language while also engaging in some deep “un-learning” of myths around second language acquisition. Teacher attitudes and beliefs around language are explored, asking them to invite fresh, new identities as bilinguals into their classrooms.

Close reading with juicy sentences →

takes text analysis to a whole new level. This cutting-edge workshop embeds the best of educational linguistics strategies to prepare teachers to conduct a “levels 1-2-3” analysis with any text type. Your MLLs will be making inferences and asking critical questions of texts in no time.

any of these workshops can be offered as half-day, full-day, or a distributed professional development series.
